Woodlands Farm, Clapton - in the Vale of Berkeley:

Woodlands Farm was one of six farms in Clapton, near Berkeley, left as part settlement to the late Countess of Berkeley from the estate of the late 8th Earl of Berkeley & Viscount of Dursly. Due to having no male heir, the title became extinct and the estate passed down to a junior line of the Berkeley family – the Berkeleys of Spetchley Park in Worcestershire
The Countess was the 2nd wife to the Earl and they married on 8th November, 1924. She was formerly, Mary Lloyd Lowell, the daughter of John Lowell, of Boston, Massachusetts, USA. She died on 11th August, 1975.
She sold the farms and the new purchaser died within a week of the completion of the purchase. These farms then went into a Family Trust, to be managed by an Estate Agency.
In 1978, three of the farmhouses were sold (we purchased Clapton Farm) and their land dispersed by portions being added to the remaining three farms, so making each of them to be a more viable proposition.
Then in 2007; each of the three remaining farms were sold to each tenant farmer in occupancy.
